The Fessenden School is a 117 year-old independent boys' boarding and day school located in Newton, MA that serves students K-9.
In 2016, Fessy launched their state-of-the-art Ciongoli Center for Innovation (CCI), and our NuVuX Fellow, Tiandra, has been an integral part of their Innovation team since 2018. Our Fellow co-leads hands-on Innovation Studio courses each semester, and collaborates with teachers and students in grades 3-9 on capstone projects, interdisciplinary initiatives and a variety of activities that take place at the CCI.
NuVuX has expanded and deepened the learning that happens in the CCI through a commitment to collaboration on multiple levels. Working alongside our NuVuX Fellow and NuVuX Team, Innovation Studio co-teachers have been able to frame new, open ended problems and guide students through the iterative process, expanding their fabrication and software skills along the way. Last year, students in a cohort-based 9th grade program, an initiative designed to allow for more cross-disciplinary, project-based learning, combined their subject skill knowledge in Biology, English, and Global Citizenship to work with seniors at the Scandinavian Living Center to uncover stories embedded in memory, history, and identity. More than 300 students and a dozen faculty have engaged with the NuVuX program over the last two years.
