Students from Collins Middle School, a grade 6-8 school in Salem Public Schools, gathered to present their inventions and process during the showcase of the NuVuX Deep Sea Bots studio at the beginning of April. As part of the showcase, students shared beautiful sketches from their early field research work, including a field trip to the Boston Aquarium, their initial idea sketches, numerous prototypes and their final projects. In the studio, students took inspiration from deep sea creatures to design devices and robots to carry out underwater missions to protect our oceans and cohabitate with diverse underwater ecosystems.
In addition to the project process, the students took great care in the design of the final exhibition showcase. As part of the planning process, they met with a curator/exhibit designer from the Peabody Essex Museum, where they discussed how to create an very engaging and interactive exhibition experience for the attendees. One unique part of the showcase was the Workshop Room, where visitors got a chance to engage in a hands-on way and make cardboard sea creatures of their own. The event even included a shark mascot to celebrate the studio and students' creations! 🚀🐙
