EMS is a K-8 private, co-educational, day school with an enrollment of around 400 students. The school is housed within a 14-acre campus, a certified wildlife habitat with nature trails, community gardens, a pond, a brook, three playgrounds, and outdoor patios. Their dynamic and flexible curriculum supports the observation and exploration of nature where the entire campus becomes a science lab.
This Fall, 8th Grade students are engaged in Cyborg Evolution, the STEAM Foundations Studio that is the first of a three-studio arc that students will take throughout the year. In this fully integrated studio that is co-taught by the NuVuX Fellow and EMS Science Teachers, students are introduced to the creative process while actively investigating the advantages and pitfalls of genetic alterations through their Biology curriculum. Through brainstorming, rapid prototyping, ideation, and on-going feedback, students will design, build, and activate beyond-human body extensions and enhancements while uncovering the way we perceive our human potential.
